Vedanta University will exceed global benchmarks for excellence in areas such as academic rigor, course options, integrated research, student culture, and diversity. The University will teach over 95 disciplines and will initially establish nine centres of excellence. Vedanta University will offer graduate, post-graduate and certificate programmes in addition to various initiatives to promote continuing education. These programmes will be offered through Schools, Centres and Departments.

 

One of the pressing challenges of the University will be to devise a curriculum that will be innovative, imaginative and reflect the changed circumstances of the 21st century. The curriculum of the university will be a marked departure from the traditional disciplinary training. In the last fifty years, various universities have experimented with inter-disciplinary, cross- disciplinary and multi- disciplinary approaches to training undergraduates with limited measures of success. The challenging environment of the new millennium demands that the University move beyond disciplines to a ‘post- disciplinary’ era by equipping students with a body of knowledge that would enable them to deal with the contentious issues from perspectives of different disciplines and diverse methodologies.

Vedanta University will be distinctive in two key respects: first, in its emphasis on undergraduate education and second, its research ambitions. While there have been many innovative institutions of higher education in India, it would be fair to say that none of these institutions have placed emphasis on both critical functions of a university.

Vedanta University's academic strength will be dependent on the caliber of faculty at the institution. The University will aggressively recruit faculty and provide an inviting academic environment by recruiting top talent as students, promoting original research, developing flexible academic programmes, creating world-class infrastructure, and making every effort to minimize constraints for academic progress.
